Common questions

Will this hurt my Google rankings?
No. We never touch Googlebot, Bingbot, or any regular search crawler. Only AI training and scraping bots are blocked. Google-Extended (which we block by default) controls Gemini AI training only — it has no effect on your search results.
What if I want to appear in ChatGPT search but block AI training?
That's exactly the configuration we recommend for most publishers — training crawlers blocked, AI search indexers left open so you keep that visibility. It's your choice, and we set it up either way.
Isn't robots.txt enough?
robots.txt is a voluntary standard — well-behaved bots follow it, many AI scrapers don't. ScrapeFence blocks at the server level: blocked bots receive a 403 error page instead of your content, whether they respect robots.txt or not. We set up both layers.
Do you need access to my site?
For setup, yes — a temporary administrator account that you revoke as soon as we're done (we'll remind you to). Ongoing monitoring runs from the protection dashboard on your own site.
Will it slow my site down?
No. The check adds a few string comparisons per request — microseconds. Your visitors will never notice it exists.
